Meet Souz

Clinical Counsellor, CCC

Souz (she/her) is a licensed Canadian Clinical Counsellor, and an unlicensed hairdresser. The latter inspired her to launch ICYOH Counselling. As a survivor of multiple unfortunate attempts at self-regulating via DIY bangs, she is a strong believer in the need for therapeutic tools to process and grow, instead of cutting your own hair...

As a neurodivergent person and first-generation immigrant, she approaches therapy from a multicultural, trauma-informed lens. You can expect a safe space that promotes curiosity, authenticity, and empowerment. Together you will build tangible tools and practices to better manage life's challenges while unpacking the traumatic, emotional and existential burdens that can weigh us down. Souz works with couples, families and youth 13+, with a focus on navigating neurodivergence, queer, and intercultural challenges in relationships.

Souzan speaks English & conversational Farsi, and offers therapy in both languages

In her personal time, Souz finds the fun in making art, dancing, martial arts, binging k-dramas, and wandering through the woods with other people’s dogs.

Immigrants & Children of Immigrants

We often exist within a challenging position between trying to honour our home cultures/values and conflicting North American expectations. It can be challenging to exist as our whole selves, with cultural pressures pulling in every direction. Together we can find peace, empowerment, and tools to navigate this challenge.

Queer, Trans, and Disability Affirming Self-Esteem & Identity

Effective therapy is contingent on validating and integrating all of the intersections of identity that you live within.  ICYOH Counselling believes in the power of self-diagnosis and understands the reality of systemic barriers facing disabled and queer people. We aim to help individuals overcome societal stigma and internalized negativity, ultimately empowering individuals to embrace their true selves and thrive in a world that often overlooks them.

Neurodivergence

Navigating the obstacles and stigma of neurodivergence poses a unique set of challenges, influencing how we perceive the world as well as the accommodations and care we require to live sustainable, autonomous, and powerful lives.

Relationship & Family Counselling

Couples therapy provides a supportive space for partners to explore relationship challenges, improve communication, resolve conflicts, and deepen emotional connections. Identify underlying issues allows couples to develop healthier patterns and strengthen their bond, leading to a more fulfilling partnership.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the sessions held?

Sessions are provided  virtually online through Jane telehealth software, and in-person Downtown Vancouver on Sundays.

What are your working hours?

I offer sessions with varying hours including morning, evening, and weekend options. Please refer to my booking schedule for full hours. Note all session times are in  PST.

What happens if I miss my session or need to cancel?

If you find that you need to cancel your session, 48-hours notice is needed to avoid any cancellation fees. If less than 48-hours notice is given, you will be charged the full session fee. That said, I give everyone 1 freebie every year; extenuating circumstances, such as injury or illness, will be considered at the discretion of the counsellor to determine if the cancellation fee could be waived.

I'm interested in therapy, but don't know where to start?

Even if you're unsure where to begin, therapy can be a vital step toward healing and progress. A consultation  will help give a sense of what working together might look like, as well as provide your therapist with an understanding of your overall goals/challenges. You don't have to know where to begin; we can help you find the steps.

Therapy is only as effective as the trust you have with your therapist. I recommend booking multiple consultations and trusting your instincts. You will not hurt a therapist's feelings if you decide not to work with them. In that attempt, if I believe I am not the right fit for you, I will be upfront and assist you in finding a practitioner who is appropriate for your needs. Take this step and discover ways to change challenging patterns, grow towards your goals, and find joy within yourself (without the unfortunate bangs...            ).
